CARMICHAEL RAIL NETWORK

BMD GROUP MAIN WORKS
Complete substructure and superstructure construction of 4 x rail bridges. Complete construction of 17 x RCBC box drainage culverts, including landing and sealing of precast box culverts. Construction of two occupational culvert crossings which allows access beneath the rail corridor for local farmers.  Landing of approximately 2km of twin cell box girders weighing up to 60T.

MARTINUS                                                                            
Complete construction of numerous RCBC culverts and bridge structure elements, including landing and sealing of precast box culverts.  Landing of approximately 2km of twin cell box girders weighing up to 60T.  Installation of 10.8km of permanent rail access walkways to 23 bridges across the complete alignment of the Carmichael Rail Project.


CALOUNDRA RD TO SUNSHINE MWY UPGRADE

Supported by the Federal and Queensland Governments, the Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway Project is a major civil infrastructure upgrade for the SEQ Region apart of the wider Bruce Highway upgrades.

FHSWJV have been contracted to upgrade the highway to 6 lanes with major overhauls of both intersection and highway service roads.  Hawthorne Civil was engaged for the construction of 4 bridges. Our works include:

  • Installation of formwork and access systems for substructure and superstructure works
  • Installation of reinforcing steel
  • Pumping and placement of concrete
  • Installation of precast parapets
  • Installation of 80 tonne 1525 precast super-T beams
  • Installation of 256 precast deck units

Hawthorne Civil has provided a large and experienced team to this project and has delivered a high quality and consistent project throughout, ahead of schedule.

EUNONY BRIDGE UPGRADE WAGGA WAGGA

Funded by the NSW and Federal Governments, the upgraded bridge will be a key piece of infrastructure for the Wagga Wagga High Productivity Freight Route, which will provide better access to the Bomen Industrial Park and connections to the Olympic Highway.

Working closely with BMD, Hawthorne Civil was involved in the construction of the new 5 span superstructure over the Murrumbidgee River. A Staged process was adopted to ensure stability of existing bridge substructure while construction of the new superstructure could be undertaken.

Hawthorne Civil was responsible for the supply and installation of all access, formwork, reinforcement (including post set), placement of concrete and installation of precast deck units (including grouting and stressing). We also assisted with the demolition works of the existing bridge.

Our specialist crews were used throughout the project to ensure high-quality and timely delivery.

BRIDGE OVER RICHMOND RIVER AT BROADWATER

Funded by both the Federal and NSW Governments, the Bridge over Richmond River at Broadwater is a part of the $4.6 billion Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway Upgrade.

Lendlease was engaged to design and build this bridge featuring more than 200 precast concrete components between headstocks and concrete bridge girders.

Hawthorne Civil were engaged to undertake FRP works on various bridge structure elements. Works included cross girder, deck and barrier construction. Works also included precast installation.

The main goals for this project are to reduce travel time, improve road safety, and increase transport efficiency.

BRIDGE OVER SHARK CREEK AT TYNDALE

Section 3 North & Shark Creek Bridges
Funded by both the Federal and NSW Governments, the Bridge over Shark Creek, Tyndale is a part of the $4.6 billion Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway Upgrade.

BMD Constructions was engaged to build this 870m bridge featuring 26 spans, piling work, access roads, and supply of precast concrete.

Hawthorne Civil were engaged to undertake FRP works on various bridge structures. Works included cross girder, deck and barrier construction as well as pre-cast girder installation. 

The main goals for this project are to reduce travel time, improve road safety, and increase transport efficiency.

TOOWOOMBA SECOND RANGE CROSSING

Funded by both the Federal and Queensland Governments, the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is a $1.6 billion upgrade.

Nexus Infrastructure was engaged to design and build this 41km motorway featuring four lanes, a 30m-deep cutting at the top of the Toowoomba range, and an 800m-long viaduct.

Hawthorne Civil were engaged to undertake FRP works on various bridge structure elements. Works included Barrier, End terminal and anti-throw screen construction.

The main goals for this project are to improve road and driver safety, reduce travel times, and relieve pressure on Toowoomba roads.

TOWNSVILLE NORTHERN ACCESS UPGRADE

The Townsville Northern Access Intersections Upgrade project will improve safety and travel times for freight and passenger transport on the Bruce Highway north of Townsville. BMD Constructions were engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to duplicate 5.2km of the Bruce Highway north of Townsville, at Black River between Veales Road and Pope Road, including duplicating the Black River Bridge. 

Hawthorne Civil was engaged by BMD Constructions to undertake the drainage construction works which include concrete construction of 43 RCBC drainage structures and 9 RCP culverts, with placement of over 1,700 m3 of reinforced concrete in the base slabs and headwalls, and installation of approximately 1,300 RCBC units.

DOUGLAS WATER TREATMENT PLANT UPGRADE

Hawthorne Civil is pleased to continue its ongoing relationship with BMD Constructions, following the award of the concrete works package for the Douglas Water Treatment Plant Upgrade. 

This also includes the construction of two new lamella clarifiers for Townsville City Council. The upgrade enhances the treatments plant’s capacity to 90 megalitres per day, providing the city of Townsville with an increased clean water supply, particularly during the wet season.


BRUCE HIGHWAY - COOROY TO CURRA

The project is being delivered in 2 construction contracts with work underway since October 2020.  Works include concrete construction of multiple bridge structures.
